The Benefits of Trials

LIfe comes with obstacles and challenges that must be faced in order for us to reach new levels  of personal growth.   There is simply no way to avoid them.  In fact, if we could grasp the benefits of trials, we would  excitedly embrace them and release any negative emotions we have toward hardship. In fact,  James 1:2 (KJV) states, "My bretheren count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations."  The following are three reasons we can latch onto in order to change our perception toward hardship.

The first reason is that it allows us to build spiritual and emotional  endurance  which is needed, if we are to live long, healthy, productive lives.  As we consistently overcome problems, we get stronger and gain the ability to stand more firmly under intense pressure.  As our patience grows,  we also  begin to realize  that anything we hope to achieve of lasting value is going to take time and persistence.  This is in direct contrast to the way we live today, where we can get almost anything almost instantaneously, with little work.  This sets us up for frustration when we don't get what we want "right now" or it seems as if our dreams will never come to fruition because we have been waiting a long time for them to manifest.  But through experience with trouble, we will learn to wait with expectation and hope, not only for ourselves but for others.

`Secondly, it exposes what we genuinely believe about God, ourselves, other people, and the world around us.  As pressure squeezes us from the outside, we begin to release through our words and actions what is on the inside of us.  This gives our core beliefs an opportunity to be inspected and/or proven.  If we find that, our words and actions do not line up with our Faith, we can work towards lining up with what we say we believe.

The third reason is that it helps us to remain humble, as well as grateful.  We begin to see the fragility of life and our inability to control it.  As we come to this realization, we are brought to our knees before an awesome, wonderous God.  If we release the reigns to Him, stress and anxiety are released as well as the feelings of helplessness.  We become people who realize we can depend and trust Him to sustain us now because He has been doing so all along.
